One of the keys to success in HR transformation is to ensure that the restructured function works as a single skilled and cohesive team focused on delivery to its clients.  It is often necessary to support those affected by the transformation by developing their skills and knowledge to meet the demands of their changed roles. 

It can be equally important to be able to gauge the current levels of skill and knowledge available, either for selection or development planning purposes.  Assessment and Development Centres are particularly useful during HR transformation because they are seen by employees to be fair and objective for selection.  They provide in-depth understanding of development needs and they give participants a realistic experience of what it will be like to operate in their new role.

Our HR Development services

Orion Partners offer a wide range of development services to meet any needs you may have, from the smallest coaching intervention with a single individual to large-scale global change programmes. 

While much of what we do is bespoke, we have also found through experience that many HR transformations face similar challenges and require a similar set of development interventions.  To address these common needs cost-effectively for our clients, we have designed an HR Tranformation Development Programme that can be run as standard or customised at minimal cost to your organisation's precise needs.  We call this "Creating One HR".

Creating One HR

We take a three-dimensional approach to developing HR, covering the underlying beliefs and mindset needed for success (the why), the technical and process skills and capabilities required (the what) and the ways to apply the knowledge (the how) to be most successful.

Creating Mindset 

This is usually a 1-day launch event for the development journey.  Your people are given an unusual opportunity to look at their beliefs about the value of the function, their role and the difference they can make.  We also share the findings of our leading edge analysis of the beliefs the most successful HR professionals hold.

Creating Capability

Each HR transformation is unique, as are the people who will be affected by it.  We therefore tailor the design of this suite of skills, knowledge and process interventions to the particular needs of your organisation and its HR practitioners.

Creating Success

To equip your people to deliver the new service successfully, we offer 6 modules in which they progress from developing self-mastery, through effective harnessing of all the resources HR can offer, to aligning deeply with the business and the client.  We cover:

  • Leading HR: Managing self belief and confidence
  • Leading HR: Maintaining independence
  • Building One HR: Working effectively with colleagues
  • Business and Strategy: Knowing the business and developing a strategic approach
  • Persuasion and Involvement: Tactics for gaining buy-in and influencing clients and colleagues
  • Client Management: Building and deepening the client relationship

Working with real issues in your business, we ensure our development has immediate relevance to your context.  Between sessions, participants use their learning to work on "live" work projects and we set up many other ways for them to embed and reinforce the learning back at work.

We deliver Creating Success through one-to-one coaching or modular workshops combined appropriately to suit your organisation and offer this development at two levels: one for experienced Business Partners and Managers of Shared Service Centres and Centres of Expertise; and one for those new into the role of Business Partner and those below Manager level in the SSCs or COEs.

The standard modules last one day each and can be rolled out over whatever timeframe is appropriate.  They can stand alone as single day events or be combined into 2-3 day programmes and all modules can be fully customised to match your precise needs.
