Its role is to make great art accessible to everyone by investing in and promoting a wide range of artistic experiences including theatre, music, literature, dance, photography, digital art, carnival and crafts.
Arts Council England employs about 850 people and between 2008 and 2011 it will invest more than £1.6 billion of public money from the government and the National Lottery to create these experiences for as many people as possible across all regions of England.
